One side is conservatives and the other is progressives. Bruckner’s musical style tends towards progressives. Until the last 15 years of his creating career his fame was spreading and his mature works were greeted by storms of enthusiasm everywhere. Te Deum, one of his dramatic works, and was composed during 1881-84. This work plays a key role in his Vienna age, which symbolizes a mature composer. This thesis is divided into five parts. The first chapter is an introduction of research purpose, contents and methods. The second chapter concentrates on the war of the Romantics and how it influences the musical style of Bruckner. And then will focuses on his bio-bibliography and the background of musical education, and also the features of secular and sacred choral works. The third chapter involves the development and expansion of Te Deum and the compositional background of the work. The fourth chapter is to discuss the interior of structures and the application of his composition according to “musical form, mode, harmony”, “melody, rhythm, texts”, “setting of vocal and orchestration”. The final chapter of this thesis focuses on performance practice and discusses the appropriate interpretation, which will enable us to understand the aroma of this work.
