Moreover, innovation activities play an important role in maintaining the growth edge for most corporate. Past studies suggest that patents can be regarded as a direct product resulting from the R&D activities. This research studies how R&D and patent activities affect the operational performance for domestic enterprises. After collecting the patent information and public financial reports from local agencies, the statistical analysis confirms that enterprises can indeed increase their business values through innovation activities which may not be the absolute factor. Findings show that the innovation activities should focus on not only the increase the quantities of patents but also their core quality in order to gain higher value-add. In addition, the study also developed a automated program to establish a patent database system to facilitate the future patent-related research.
