In order to achieve the objectives of the research mentioned above, questionnaire survey method was adopted and people age 55 years and over in Taoyuan county were studied. The research tool is “The survey questionnaire on the social support and leisure constraints”. 438 of questionnaires were sent out, whereby 424 were responded, 405 were effective, and the effective responding rate was 96.58%. The major findings are as following: 1. Types of leisure activity that the elderly participate in mainly is “amusement entertainment”, next is “health care activities”, and then is “politics activities”. 2. Social support feel better high of the elderly, types of social support that the elderly get most is “informational support”, and the least is “tangible support”. 3. Leisure constraints feel middle of the elderly, types of leisure constraints that affect elderly populations take part in leisure activity mainly is “structural constraints”, and “interpersonal constraints” are minimal. 4. The elderly living with married children get much more social support than those only living with grandchildren. 5. Economy condition affects the elderly’s “tangible support”. “rich”is significantly higher than“average”. 6. Age affects the elderly’s “structural constraints”. “Over 85 years old” is significantly higher than“65-74 years old”. 7. Marriage affects the elderly’s personal “inner constraints”. “Married”and ”widower&widow”is significantly higher than ”unmarried” 8. Health condition affects the elderly’s leisure constraints. “Average”and “not healthy” is significantly higher than ”very healthy”, and “average” is significantly higher than ”healthy”. 9. Living status affects the elderly’s leisure constraints. “Living alone” is significantly higher than ” living with unmarried children”and “living with married children and grandchildren”. 10. The elderly’s “social support” is significantly negatively related to their “leisure constraints”. 11. The elderly’s “tangible support” is significantly negatively related to their “structural constraints”. 12. There is significant negative association between the elderly’s “emotional support” and “interpersonal constraints” 13. There is significant negative association between the elderly’s “emotional support” and “structural constraints” 14. The elderly’s “informational support” is significantly negatively related to their “interpersonal constraints”. 15. The elderly’s “informational support” is significantly negatively related to their “structural constraints”. My suggestions are as bellows: 1. Suggestion to government (1) Advance elderly social support service network. (2) Increase public transportation for elderly. 2. Suggestion to organizations providing leisure activities to the elderly (1) Design entertaining and health care leisure activities. (2) Increase tangible support service in community. (3) Provide barrier-free leisure spaces and facilities in community. (4) Set up teams to trace physical & mentally health condition of the elderly living alone and without spouces. 3. Suggestion to the older population (1) Continuing to participate leisure activities, and intensify tangible support and emotional support. (2) Take part in activities actively, and change concept of leisure constraints. 4. Suggestion to future study Suggestion to study area、study type and study method, and provide future study consul.
