Summary: | 碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 社會工作與兒童少年福利學系 === 100 === In order to understand the reasons of youth volunteers who continue to participate in voluntary services. Many researches showed high school students maybe stop to be volunteers due to academic stress. However, the number of youth volunteers is increasing year by year in Taiwan. The emphasis of this study is to understand why adolescents enjoy participating in voluntary services and continue to do it under their academic pressure and financial dependent condition. The research subjects are members of a youth volunteer team which belongs to non-profit welfare foundation in Miao-Li County.
The in-depth interview method and focus group method were used to collect necessary data. There were 23 volunteers who have joined the team over 3 years, and 3 former volunteers, who also had joined the team over 3 years, were interviewed. Therefore, we have 26 research subjects.
The research has found that youth volunteer participation history can be divided into 5 periods. There are 1st called fresh period, 2nd called satisfy period, 3rd called stable period, 4th called conflict period, and the last one called internalized period. If youth volunteers have unsolved conflicts in their voluntary services period, they may stop to be volunteers.
If youth volunteers fulfill their original motive in the voluntary services, and receive, for example, peer support, capability enhancement, positive feedback, and good administration and training in the volunteer organization. Their motivation to continue participation in voluntary services will be increased. If their conflicts can’t be solved, being alienated from the group, or not satisfied, they may suspend to be volunteers.
