Squares in ancient days performs public function due to the features of cities and living habits at that time. This essay analyzes the space by investigating current status and comparing it with form of square, relationship between square and architecture and the way to use square in different aspects. Spatial configuration and planning for squares nowadays involve several features--- most spaces with design of axial and symmetry, less spatial enclosure, specific proportion of soft and hard pavement, limited art effects of objects, different unity and harmony due to the proportion of square and architecture and most activities in square were held by government. Finally, this study hopes to come up with a beneficial conclusion of the current status and features of square to present valuable information for future researches.
