A Taiwanese American, Lin combines her dual culture background to write stories based on Chinese folk literature she read as a child. In her book, Lin`s illustrations, created with an oriental flavor, bring the stories and the characters to life. Lin takes both the readers and the characters in her stories for adventurous rides in her imaginary world. The book uses a multi-perspective narrative styles to show the relationships among the characters in their adventures. This thesis traces the intertextuality between Lin`s stories and their Chinese folk story to explore how the folk stories influenced her writing. Since, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a work of fantasy, this thesis also studies and tries to identify the fantasized elements Lin uses to create her attractive stories.
