碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 進修部暑期特教碩士班 === 100 === The study used case studies of qualitative research, undertaking semi-structured interviews with the key caregiver by one-to-one. The main purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the perceived stress, coping strategies and social support of one key caregiver who had children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The major findings of the study were summarized as follows: 1. The perceived stress for the key caregiver of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy was classified into three categories. The three categories were :(a) stress from the children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, (b) stress from the burden of physiology and (c) stress from the burden of psychology. 2. The reaction caused by stress of the key caregiver with Duchenne muscular dystrophy children was categorized as physiological reaction and psychological reaction. 3. The coping strategies were categorized as problem-focused coping strategies and emotion-focused coping strategies. 4. It seemed that there were three categories of social support available for the key caregiver of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Three categories were emotional social support, instrumental social support and informational support. To sum up, the findings of this research might help society and related institutions get better and deeper understanding for stress, coping strategies and social support of the key caregiver with Duchenne muscular dystrophy children, and supplied suitable help to them. Thus, it would advance the quality of nurse for sick children and assisted the the key caregiver to manage stress and cope with stress effectively.
