Through the case study, the researcher interprets and discusses the implications of the child’s creation in each stage of the creative process.
The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter, introduction, illustrates the motivation of research and research questions. The second chapter discusses various aspects of children’s art and literacy creation through investigating relation between children’s literature and children, characteristics of picture books and data collected from questionnaires. It furthermore elaborates the growing history of the personal in this case study. The third chapter covers the initial literacy stage of the child in this case study. It explores the child’s language and art development from her scribbling, story telling, poetry, and drawing to understand the different processes of creative works between spoken and written languages. The fourth chapter analyzes the winning illustrated books which the child in this case study won in five consecutive years in the Love makes whole: Children’s illustrated book award hosted annually by Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation. It discusses her play with words and the symbolic codes existed in her creative works of picture books and also explains how her creative works of picture books were associated with her life course.
