Ecological awareness (environmental conservation) has now been spreading in full swing in all fields, one of whose goals is to endow people with the idea of ecological protection. In terms of this, animal novel, as a genre of children’s literature, seems to have earlier awakenings, which is attributed to children’s nature of liking to get close to Nature and loving animals, and the topics of animal novels, which usually include concern for all living things as well as relationships between human beings and animals. This study uses thirteen animal novels created by China’s new generation writer Black Crane as research text to, from the educational point of view of humanism, probe into the writer’s works and life story through text analysis and personal interview. This study also explores the writer’s story-telling techniques, the motifs of the works, and from the prospective of ecology literature research, the works’ revelations on education. The conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. Black Crane writes in order to reminisce the vanishing wilderness culture and express his nostalgia and longing for his hometown. 2. Black Crane depicts the image of animals in his works with intense emotions and ardent love for animals. 3. People may, through the images of animals presented in the animal novels, be able to see how animals struggle to survive and how they love and attend on heir young, and thus know that the animal world is also a sentimental one. 4. The animal novels convey the survival law of natural selection and that life and death are inevitable natural phenomena; therefore, people should cherish life and show respect to all God’s creatures, great and small; and hopefully, human beings, Nature, and all living things are able to live in harmony.
