The purpose of this study was based on the concept of somatic movement education to develop a course and discuss the effect on the performance of 60-meter dash for track- and-field athletes in elementary school. There were totally 20 elementary track-and-field athletes in Hualien County and divided into the experimental and control group. The former was engaged with the somatic movement course, which was 40-minutes-a-time, twice-a-week, and ten-week long.
An action research methodology was applied to realize the acceptance and learning situation of the course. By gathering the course feedback sheets, teaching reflection log and observer reports to alter the course and as the basis of discussion on course effect. Both groups were tested on 60-meter dash before and after the course. Then, the data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA to discuss the influence of somatic movement education on the performance of 60-meter dash.
Conclusions were listed below:
1. The students’ favor to somatic movement education went up to 95% and 84% of students because it was easy. It revealed that students highly accepted the course and learned well. It could increase learning motivation and was suitable for elementary track-and-field athletes.
2. According to the test on 60-meter dash, the experimental group made the progress by 0.66 seconds averagely. The data with α greater than .05 was treated as the obvious result. After taking ten-week courses, the experimental group made the prominent progress on 60-meter dash.
Conclusion: Somatic movement education could apply to the training of 60-meter dash and make the prominent progress.
