The painting in early days were usually used as important artistic creation method. However, the invention of photography overcame the difficulties in authenticity and timing for paintings. Based on the review on literature review and sample analysis, this study investigated whether the expression techniques combining illustration skills with photography techniques could trigger the developmental trend of unique picture books. The conclusion of dimensions with illustrator’s artistic style and idea will from the blue print of the book. Provides plans and perspective routes for future development of art works, and hopefully serves as reference for other researchers of art works. This study selected the picture books using relevant expression techniques published prior to 2011, and referred to the illustration style classification methods proposed by I et al. (2004) to analyze the characteristics of photography techniques and illustration styles, as well as how they affect each other. The research results were: 1) expression techniques of picture books are affected by scientific development; photography techniques are applied more frequently to the latest published picture books; 2) realistic photographic images play the leading role in a picture; 3) in virtual photography and post-produced hand-painted illustrations: the expression of images revealed strong conflicts; 4) model scene and hand-painted illustration photography: is a complete expression techniques combining photography with model production and illustration expression; 5) collage of photography and illustrations: relies on light and free plane characteristics of high variability; 6) three-dimensional and quasi-dimensional models: are subject to sophisticated modeling technology; 7) virtual scenery and model-role photography: possesses high mobility to obtain images; 8) “decorative images” are most frequently used in the overall illustration styles, followed by “fairy tale cartoons.” The results of this work are: 1) “model scene and hand-drawn illustration photography” is a kind of multiple creation method. 2) Graphic figure illustration model is prone to slight deformation because of the space and angle at which the model is placed. 3) To avoid unnatural body limb angles after shooting, it is necessary to ensure the angle of shooting and the angle of graphic illustration figures are consistent. 4) Polish that reflects light on the surface of model should be avoided so as to decrease unnecessary reflective light spots during shooting. 5) A large aperture can be used for a close-up shot and highlight subject. 6) Lighting is helpful to create an appropriate atmosphere for a scene.
