The study chose 126 six grade students from six elementary schools of Tainan coastal area, in which immigrant residents children accounted for 36. The study performed descriptive statistics after completion of number sense tests, then qualitative data was collected 3 student levels — low-presentation, middle-presentation, high-presentation. The attained results through analysis are as follow: 1. The average accuracy was 55%, the immigrant residents students tended to score lower in the number sense test. They got better score in developing calculation strategies, but lower score in understanding the significance and the relationship of numbers. 2. There were three main categories of error patterns: (1) incorrect calculating; (2) misunderstanding of the number sense; (3) escaping. Most students got the wrong answers because of the incorrect calculating, a small part of misunderstanding of the number sense, but up to 30% of students answered without thinking. 3.
