The thesis is composed of five main section: (1) This paper attempts to discuss Beethoven’s Messe C-dur Op.86 starting from theorigins of Magnificat by understanding the history and background of Messe C-dur Op.86,this research gets help in investigating the soul and contents of his music. (2) Discuss the biographic sketch of Beethoven and his composition genres. (3) Analyzing the music structures and composing skills of Beethoven’s Messe C-dur Op.86. By following the cycle of six texts in the mass—the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei—the relationship between lyrics and music is further explored. In addition, how tonality, cadence, motifs, relationship between lyrics and melody line are organised as well as the musical expressions embodied in each part of the mass are fully studied in order to understand the virtuosity and excellence of Beethoven’s Messe C-dur Op.86 and to provide a reference for musicappreciation teaching or music theory. (4) A personal interpretation of the work is presented based on the overall musical expression,providing the reference for performers and researches in the future. (5) Conclusion based on the study of the four parts mentioned above.
