Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北護理健康大學 === 生死教育與輔導研究所 === 100 === The research aims to investigate the relationship among altruistic behavior, altruistic motivation and spiritual health of elders, and to realize the state of altruistic behavior, altruistic motivation and spiritual health of the elders in Taiwan. Then according to the research, the researcher formulates the questionnaire, which refers to altruistic behavior and altruistic motivation of elders, as the reference for those who are interested in topics of elders, and for other researchers and professionals in this field.
The researcher takes the elders in one public housing in Taipei City as one population, and takes 131 samples by purposive sampling. Research tools include the researcher’s adaptation of “the questionnaire of altruistic behavior and altruistic motivation,” basic information form, Spirituality Assessment Scale, Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire, and Barthel Index. Analytical methods include descriptive statistics, t test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Research conclusions are as follows:
1.Elders who participate in this research have strong altruistic motivation,
infrequent exhibition of altruistic behavior, excellent spiritual health, low social
support, excellent cognitive function, and excellent activities of daily living.
2.The difference in spiritual health between elders in different demographic
variables: the more mentally healthy elders find themselves, the more excellent
spiritual health they have. There is no obvious difference between other demographic
variables and spiritual health.
3.The exhibition of altruistic behavior includes, from frequent to infrequent, helping
others, comforting and treating others kindly, fufilling others’ requests and
sharing, and moving things; Altruistic motivation includes, from strong to weak,
faith in helping others, caring, sharing, and supporting.
4.There is a positive correlation between altruistic behavior, altruistic motivation
and cognitive function, activities of daily living and spiritual health in elders
who participate in this research.
5.Predicability of spiritual health includes, form high to low, altruistic motivation,
consciousness of being mentally healthy, and activities of daily living.
As research conclusions suggest, elders have altruistic motivation and altruistic behavior, and spiritual health can be promoted by altruistic motivation and altruistic behavior. The connection between spiritual health and altruism ultimately forms a positive circulation of elders who can age successfully. Finally based on the research, the researcher offers concrete suggestion for references.
