Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore junior high students’ support and understanding of the “Enlargement of the Open Admission Program” and its influence on their learning attitudes. The researcher uses the questionnaire survey as the main method in this study and designed the questionnaire entitled “Learning Attitudes” and “The Support and Understanding of the Enlargement of the Open Admission Program” as the survey tool to investigate the first-grade and third-grade students in public junior high schools in Pingtung City. The datas are analyzed with the methods as followings: descriptive statistics, one sample t-test, one–way ANOVA, Pearson’s Correlation, Scheffe’s method and Mmultiple Regression. In addition, some important questions related to this study are listed in another questionnaire for teachers to answer, which is supposed to convey teachers’ true feelings toward this program. According to the research, the results are summarized below:
1. Junior high students got positive views toward “Enlargement of the Open Admission Program” . Except “Junior Colleges Admission by Application”,
junior high students have clear ideas of this program.
2. Junior high students’ support and understanding of the “Enlargement of the Open Admission Program” are different due to different variables, such as grade, socioeconomic status, and teachers’ leading way.
3. Junior high students take positive learning attitudes after complementing “Enlargement of the Open Admission Program”. But students with different background variables show significant differences on their learning attitudes.
4. Junior high students’ support and understanding toward the “Enlargement of the Open Admission Program” are not much correlated with their learning attitudes. But the more they support and understand this program, we can effectively predict the better learning attitudes they will have.
5. Generally speaking, junior high teachers got positive opinions toward this program; however, they don’t think that this program can stir up junior high students’ learning motivation or reduce students’ learning pressure. Though for most teachers the teaching pressure isn’t reduced because of this program, they tend to enhance their teaching positively to adjust the change brought by this program.
Finally, based on the results above, the researcher tries to provide useful suggestions for the education administrative authorities and other researchers.
Key words: Enlargement of the Open Admission Program, learning attitudes
