The mass production of consumer electronics makes them become popular in many families. It becomes a serious question for most consumer electronics manufactures how to attract their users. It is designers playing a decisive role to design attractive products. Once the designers can realize the needs and preferences of consumers, touching heart consumer electronics can be released. It becomes a must in the product developing process to figure out the needs and preferences of target users.
This research bases on Kansei Engineering Type 1 to identify the needs and preferences of electric toothbrush users. A questionnaire was developed to find a group of Kansei words which are suiting for describing electric toothbrushes. Seven representative Kansei words were extracted by using factors analysis from the results of the questionnaire. Quantification Theory Type I was adopted to analyze the relationship between the 7 representative Kansei words and the items and categories of selected electric toothbrushes. The relationship table can help designers to transform the needs and preferences of users into the design element of products.
This study aims to help designers to create the electric toothbrushes
which are closer to users' demand. More users will be happy to use electric toothbrushes, if their Kansei can be added into the design of electric toothbrush.
