Summary: | 碩士 === 國立屏東科技大學 === 土木工程系所 === 100 === Plastic PVC and ABS pipes are both widely used in water transportation, sewer, electricity, telecommunications and other pipeline projects. The engineering properties of these plastic pipes during their service life are expected to be influenced by several environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and ultraviolet radiation. In addition, photochemical effects will accelerate the rate of deterioration of these pipes. The objective of this study is to investigate the ultraviolet effects on the pipe stiffness and tensile strength of two local made PVC and ABS pipes subjected to 12-month on-site outdoor exposure, respectively.
The test results showed that the PVC pipe stiffness increased about 20% after an ultraviolet exposure at the intensity above 4109.12 MJ/m2. However, ultraviolet exposure had very little effect on the pipe stiffness value of the ABS test pipe. The results of tensile tests were indicated that 12-month sunlight exposure also has no significant influence on the tensile strength on both test pipes. In addition, ductile and brittle failure modes were observed for the test PVC and ABS pipes during the un-exposed and exposed tensile test samples, respectively.
