This is a qualitative research with purposive sampling method. Six middle-aged and senior citizens who continued to study English in Nantou County were enrolled in this study. We used comprehensive interview and observation to collect the related information. After collecting, analyzing and discussing the data, the result was formed. The motivation for learning English among the middle-aged and senior citizens included deep interest in learning English, previous good career and well-educated, and higher social status. The obstacle in learning English among the middle-aged and senior citizens were aging, high dignity, and being afraid of failure. However they were good at developing special learning methods to break through the hindrance and continued to learn English. There was a positive impact on their daily livings among the middle-aged and senior citizens and was also helpful to their successful aging. The findings and results of this study could contribute to curriculum design and arrangement for learning English among middle-aged and senior citizens.
