Materials and Methods:Data used in this study come from 1979-2010 vital statistics from the Department of Health, and interior statistics from the Ministry of the Interior. We utilized the vector error correction model (VECM) to analyze the impact of factors on the elderly suicide mortality. Results:Our results show that (1) the number of household members has a negative impact on the elderly suicide but it is statistically significant for the female only. (2) the labor force participation rate has also a negative (positive) impact on the elderly suicide for the male(the female). (3) the GDP per capita has a statistically positive impact on the elderly suicide. (4) the improvement of health technology(measured by the life expectancy) has a positive impact on the elderly suicide but it is not statistically significant for the female. (5) The impulse response malysis and variance decomposition analysis find that the GDP per capita has a higher impact on elderly suicide mortality than aggregate effect from other three variables. Conclusion:Based on the results from this study, the elderly suicide prevention implemented by Taiwan’s government should focus on the stabilization of socioeconomic environment, and the provision of complete care for the elderly policy. Keywords:Elderly Suicide Rate, Vector Error Correction Model, Vector Autoregressive Model. Chen, Wen-Yi 陳文意 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 142 zh-TW
