Summary:碩士 === 高雄師範大學 === 客家文化研究所 === 100 === As a Catholic Hakka, Hakka is my indelible root whereas Catholicism nurtured my religious belief, and discipline my personal traits and character, which have a profound impact in my life. In the 1950s, a group of respectable missionaries in the Pingtung Plain either rode motorcycles or drove Beatles around towns and villages. They were not enjoying the speed, showing off their wealth, but assisting and transporting the sick ones to hospitals for treatment. Furthermore, they would inquire public sentiment, visit and console the needy and less fortunate villagers. Most importantly, they would do everything they can to show their humanitarian care for the Pingtung Plain and let the people in this region to recognize, connect, and then accept God’s love and salvation. These respectable missionaries were the Ordo Predicatorum Teutonica Provincial West Germany . Since 1914, they were already doing their missionary work in Minxi of Fujian , China. Due to civil war and unstable political situation, they had rerouted their missionary responsibility to a new land, Pingtung, Taiwan. Since arriving to the Pingtung Plain, they had encountered many obstacles, the hot and humid weather, cultural shock, language barrier, and difference in religious beliefs. These obstacles however didn’t stop them; they had actively expanded their social services and religious care, and soon drafted and developed an appropriate missionary strategy to continue to spread out the gospel of God. At the same time, the U.S. material assistance had played a critical role during the Ordo Predicatorum Teutonica Provincial West Germany missionary task. Hence, it was necessary to divide the missionary work into two phases – the US Aid, and non-US Aid, in order to witness the rise and fall of the missionary work. In 2007, Ordo Predicatorum Teutonica Provincial West Germany in Taiwan officially disbanded. They passed and handed over all the evangelization results to the Catholic Church in Kaohsiung Diocese to successful complete and fulfill their missionary task from God.
