Description
Summary:碩士 === 高雄師範大學 === 聽力學與語言治療研究所 === 100 === In aphasiology, fluency is a diagnostic feature for which definition and measures are obscure. In order to clarify the nature of fluency, this study was aimed to (1) examine the correlation between the overall fluency level and ten fluency measures; (2) explore the important predictors of ratings of fluency. Twenty-seven narrative speech samples were collected from 16 aphasic subjects and were analyzed with ten fluency measures. Ten fluency measures include six objective measures (speech rate, mean length of utterance, phrase length, speech productivity, filler ratio, and Index of Communication Efficiency) and four subjective ratings (articulatory agility, melodic line, grammatical form, and audible struggle). Ratings of fluency and subjective ratings were made by four speech-language pathologists. Data were analyzed with Pearson’s product-moment correlation and stepwise multiple regression. The results indicate that, except filler ratio, nine fluency measures were significantly and positively correlated with ratings of fluency. In addition, the findings show that grammatical form was the only predictor of fluency. Finally, limitations of current study and suggestions of future research are discussed in detail.
