They are the synthesis of design and links to classroom teaching. They also possess a direct basis in the actual implantation of classroom teaching.” (Li Quan, 2006: 212). Therefore, not only should teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language combine theory and teaching categories but should even more be aimed at the needs of the student by progressing in a systematic planning design. The main focus of this research is on the planning and design of teaching materials for Chinese as a foreign language. This work takes an introduction to classical Chinese prose as the research nucleus of planning design of these teaching materials. From the importance of classical prose in modern Chinese learning, the need for introductory classical prose teaching materials etc, the needs of students in studying classical Chinese prose is analyzed. In addition to the exploration of the state of current classical Chinese study materials it can be known that teaching materials exclusively for classical Chinese prose are scant. Therefore, concerning the exploration of the planning and design in the compilation of learning materials questionnaires have been designed for the needs of learners and Chinese teachers. After the collection of these questionnaires, statistical organization of the data is implemented. Based on the results of the questionnaire a scientific as well as a systematic design of the learning material is proceeded with. The Chinese learning materials designed are suitable text examples for the needs of novice learners of classical Chinese prose. ‘A New Account of Tales of the World’ is presented as the main selection for this learning material. The results of this research provide the following three suggestions as reference for future relevant research: The construction a database for learning and teaching materials of classical Chinese prose, the establishment of a system of introductory classical Chinese prose course style an also the development of a series of theme based introductory classical Chinese prose learning and teaching materials. It is anticipated that in the future there will be more enthusiastic scholars to continue the cultivation of introductory classical Chinese prose learning materials and moreover to develop many more kinds of suitable teaching materials. 方麗娜 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
