The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of English picture books into instruction on English learning attitude and motivation of elementary school students. A quasi-experiment was designed for two fifth-grade classes of Happiness Elementary School in Kaohsiung who were recruited as the subjects of the study. The experimental group spends 10 weeks, one class per week, total 10 classes receiving the reading instruction through the teaching of English picture books; the control group receiving the traditional instruction during experimentation period. Based on the purpose, quantitative statistic analysis and qualitative analysis are used. All quantitative data are analyzed through t-test, Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) , Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson Product-moment Correlation. Besides, the researcher used Unit Feedback Sheet, Program Feedback Form, and Interview Record as aided assessment tools to evaluate the subjects’ feedback on the reading instruction. The conclusions are as follows: 1.In the quantitative statistic analysis, there is no influence on English learning attitudes and motivations between the experimental group and the control group. 2.In the qualitative analysis, the subjects give positive English learning attitudes and motivations on the context of the reading instruction integrated into the teaching of English picture books. 3.It’s interesting to learn English and reading instruction through multiple teaching methods. Finally, the researcher provided the English teachers and further research with suggestions for reference.
