Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among Kaohsiung City retired men’s social support and the sense of life meaning. To explore the impact of various backgrounds on social support and the sense of life meaning. This study also assessed the influence and prediction of social support and the sense of life meaning in retired men. Questionnaire survey method was used in this study. This study employed three questionnaires to collect data, including Background , Social Support Scale and The Sense of Life Meaning Scale. The participants of the study were 523 retired men of Kaohsiung City. The collected data were analyzed by using the statistical methods of descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson Product-moment correlation and Stepwise Regression Procedure.
The main conclusions of this study were as follows：
1. The social support of Kaohsiung city retired men were good.
2. The sense of life meaning of Kaohsiung city retired men were above average.
3. The age, perceived health status and former profession are related to retired men’ s social support.
4. The age, marriage status, education, children , religion, perceived health status, former profession are related to retired men’ s sense of life meaning.
5. There was a significant positive correlation between social support and the sense of life meaning of retired men.
6. The retired men’s social support were predictable to the sense of life meaning.
Based on the data analysis results, this study provided suggestions respectively on retired men ,unretired men ,government administrative organizations, and future studies.
