The purpose of this study is to discuss the relationship among self-directed learning readiness, work values and job satisfaction of the military instructors of high schools in the southern region. The researcher used a self-designed questionnaire as a tool to investigate the self-directed learning readiness, work values and job satisfaction of 630 military instructors of high schools in Tainan, Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County. The sample data were analyzed by the SPSS software (Chinese version), including T-test, One-Way ANOVA, Pearson production-moment correlation and Stepwise multiple regression analysis. The major findings are summarized as follows:
1. The self-directed learning readiness of the high school military instructors belongs to the intermediate level. “Love learning” belongs to a higher level among the four aspects.
2. The work values of the high school military instructors belong to the positive level. “Social interaction” has more profound awareness among the three aspects.
3. The job satisfaction of the high school military instructors belongs to the intermediate level. “Working social ties” belongs to a higher level among the three aspects.
4. A significant difference was found in the self-directed learning readiness of the high school military instructors due to “education degree” and “current job position.”
5. A significant difference was found in the work values of the high school military instructors due to “age”, “education”, “work experience” and “current job position.”
6. A significant difference was found in the job satisfaction of the high school military instructors due to “education”, “work experience”, “current job position”, “school type” and “the number of military instructor of the school.”
7. The more active the self-directed learning readiness of the high school military instructors, the higher their job satisfaction.
8. The more profound the work values of the high school military instructors, the higher their job satisfaction.
9. The more active the self-directed learning readiness of the high school military instructors, the more profound their work values.
10. The self-directed learning readiness and the work values of the high school military instructors can be used to effectively predict the level of job satisfaction.
According to the research findings, some suggestions are given as follows:
A. Suggestions for administrative bureaus in education
(a) Increasing a variety of learning opportunities and programs and encouraging the high school military instructors to achieve self-directed learning readiness.
(b) Enhancing the positive effect of the self-directed learning readiness on job satisfaction of the high school military instructors.
(c) Actively guiding the high school military instructors to a positive work values in order to increase job satisfaction.
B. Suggestions for high school military instructors
(a) Understanding the trends of education reform and realizing the importance of lifelong learning.
(b) Be positive in work values and always keep learning so as to increase job satisfaction.
