Because ofthe cost and uncertainty of these dating methods, researchersuse rock samples with known ages and rebound values to develop the Schmidt hammer - exposure age dating method (the Schmidt-hammer exposure-age dating, SHD). This study aims to use Schmidt hammer to hit the rock with TCNDagesin Mt. Nanhu of Taiwan to get their rebound values (R values), andcreate the linear relationship betweenTCND ages and R values. When calibrated-age curve is established,the possible range of ages ofother erratic boulders can be obtained. This study used N-type Schmidt hammer to measure the R values of 9 quartzite boulder samples with known exposure age, and appliedmethod of Basu andAydin (2004) to translate non-horizontal rebound values to horizontal ones,so that all data can be analyzed and compared under the same conditions. This study found thatthere is a strong linear relationship between erraticboulders’rebound values and TCND ages(y = -0.578x + 37.85, R² = 0.838), indicatingthe applicability of this calibrated dating method in this area. Schmidt hammer and the calibrated-age curve were applied on thequartziteerraticboulders without absolute age in Jiamin Lake,andthe possible age of Quaternary alpine glaciers was discussed.
