Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 企業管理研究所 === 100 === The climate changes and worldwide energy shortage have driven countries to take note of the issues of saving energy and reducing carbon emission. Governments have devoted themselves in developing alternative energy projects and renewable energy subsidy policies, in the hope to reduce greenhouse effects and promote the development of renewable energy industry. The promotion of renewable energy (namely, the “solar energy” in this study) depends largely on national subsidies to sustain the development of the industry. Bad macroeconomics would cause the stagnation of the sales of solar energy products. Therefore, it is the purpose of the study to discover the niche for the industrial development. In view of costs, the study discussed how renewable energy could exert its economic function. The research data included the electricity generation costs and energy subsidies in Taiwan and in other countries. The study discussed, from both in-the-industry and non-business dimensions, about the related costs in generating electricity, such as system installation, electricity generating structures, with the consideration of carbon emission rights trading and feed-in tariffs, and analyzed the possibility of renewable energy economy.
The results showed that the electricity generating costs of conventional electricity plants were the determinants to the success of renewable energy development. In addition, the costs for installing the devices of various sizes also influence consumers’ willingness to use solar energy. From the cost sensitivity analysis, the study found the reason why solar energy was not so appealing to consumers was that its generating cost of $4.62 per degree was much higher than the conventional electricity provider -- Taipower’s $2.82 per degree. Apparently, under the current electricity price structure and with current installation costs of solar energy devices, only when the conventional electricity generating costs rise to a more reasonable price, for instance, $4.94 per degree, would the solar energy reach its economic feasibility.
