The purpose of this study was to explore the marrage expectation of adults who were single-parented in their adolescence. This study focus on how parental divorce affect the marrage expectation of adults who were single-parented in their Adolescence, and how the time of parents tell their children the divorce decision make influence to children.
The qualitative approach is used in this study, and analysis datas through marrage expectation theories. There are two participants in this study, and the method of data collection is narrative interview. Through costruction, destruction and reconstruction of Narrative interview, the data collection had been made. Based on the observation and analysis in this study, the results are as follows:
Adults who were single-parented in their adolescence have very cautious attitudes toward love and marriage. They didn’t easily start or end the relationship , not to mention the marriage. On the other hand, they create the expectation toward the future mate according to what they observed in their parents’ relationship that ended in divorce.
When did the parents tell their children the divorce decision, and how did parents explain anything about divorce are very important and influential to children. If parents didn’t discuss the divorce decision with children before they divorce, it would make deeply hurt to children’ heart. Besides, children need long time to adjustment and accept parental divorce.
The adjustment of adults who were single-parented in their adolescence after parental divorce, there are several factors may advance their mental adjustment such as family relationship connection, the emotional support of relatives and friends’.
The implication and suggestions of the study were addressed.
