The three purposes of the study are as the following. 1. to explore the qualities of “earthen material” and its art performance. 2. to establish a visual art integration curriculum model based on “earthen material”. 3.to explore the feasibility of the course design through teaching activities as to reference to visual art curriculum teaching in mediate graders in elementary schools. This study is done through analyses of literature review, action study, interviews, observing, students’ self-evaluation integration, and teaching journals. It’s got the following results. 1.In terms of the qualities of “earthen material” and its art performance: Curriculum connecting “earth” in mythology, “earth” in nature, “earth” in art, “earth” in native art education (whose pronunciation in mandarin Chinese has the same sound of “earth” ) helps knowledge establishment through experiment activities. 2. The establishment of visual art integration curriculum model based on “earthen material”:Through literature review and action study, visual art instruction based on “earthen material” can reach better teaching results if connected with teaching fields of Natural Science and Integrated Activities. 3. In terms of the adoptability of “earthen material ”applied to visual art instruction: The curriculum involving cognition, skills, and affection that fits students’ physical and mental development is more acceptable to students. Versatile developing activities promote learning efficiencies, which not only fit students’ life experiences but derive other pedagogical values. The curriculum is feasible.
