An experiment was thus conducted to 182 grade five students from two elementary schools in Miao Li County. While an ultimatum game was played among the students to study students’ fairness preferences, the Centipede game was played for observing their altruistic behaviors. The variables (the offer quantity, reject ratio and the fairness of the division) were analyzed accordingly to examine whether there would be differences in students’ fair and altruistic behaviors in terms of their gender, cultural and geographical background. Findings of this experiment are described below— 1. As far as the variables of offer quantity, reject ratio and fair division behaviors are concerned, there’re no significant differences among the grade five students in terms of their gender, cultural and geographical background. 2. The development of the grade five students’ fair and altruistic behaviors coincides with the Piagetian concept of fairness and the altruistic theory proposed by cognitive scholars. 3. The offer quantity variable correlates with the reject ratio variable. The fewer the offer quantity, the higher the reject ratio. The result shows that when the payoff is unfair, grade five students in elementary schools tend to reject the offer to protect their interest. Keywords: ultimatum game, Centipede game, fairness of the division, altruism 闕雅文 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 102 zh-TW
