Description
Summary:碩士 === 國防醫學院 === 護理研究所 === 100 === Background: Under the policy of the Ministry of National Defense, disaster relief work has been included in one of the central tasks. Most of military people did not receive professional training in disaster relief, but in the event of a disaster, they always start the rescue mission at the first time. To bear the disaster relief mission, they may experience psychological distress. Objective: The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) on decreasing psychological distress for the military disaster relief workers. Method: This study used the control group design with pretest and posttest. There were 65 military rescue workers who were stratified and randomly assigned to the experimental group (N=32), and the control group (N=33).The participants in experimental group received EMDR once a week for four times. In control group, the participants received the routine psychology course. The structured questionnaires including Chinese version of Impact of Event Scale-revised, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Beck Depression Inventory-II were used to evaluate the participants at the pretest and 4-week later posttest. The heart rate variability (HRV) was measured once a week. The data were analyzed by Independent t-test, Chi-square test, and Fisher,s exact test for the homogeneity between the two groups. The Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) was used to examine the effect of EMDR on the PTSD, anxiety, depression, and HRV. Results:(1) The participants in the experimental group reported significant more reduction in symptoms of PTSD than the control group. (2) The participants in the experimental group experienced significant more reduction in symptoms of anxiety than the control group. (3) The participants in the experimental group felt significant more reduction in symptoms of depression than the control group. (4) The HRV in the experimental group tended to be more improvement than that in the control group. Conclusion: The Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can effectively relieve the psychological distress for military disaster relief workers. Key words: the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing(EMDR)、 post-traumatic stress disorder、anxiety、depression、heart rate variability.
