The major study subject is Taiwan’s cosplayers, and the minor is the photographers. This is to reach the five research purposes as follows. Firstly, convey the related information of Taiwan’s cosplayers. Secondly, realize the cosplayers’ self-perspectives associated with one’s inner world. Thirdly, see how the cosplayers understand the view from the other people. And fourthly, see how they view the self-portrait of themselves. Finally, analysis the images of the cosplay. Taiwan’s cosplay, belongs to subculture, originates from Japan. People who dressed themselves in order to play roles called cosplayers. They record and show themselves through image-representation. The main object they played is from the popular context. Therefore the role-playing and photographing are closely linked and inseparable. What’s more, between the observers and the one be watched; people record themselves by photographing and communicate by images. Thus cosplay becomes a part of contemporary visual culture. In this research, there are two manners, including participant observation and in-depth interviews of qualitative research, to make a thorough inquiry of cosplayers’ self-perspectives. Not only could one understand the performances of the cosplayers by participant observation but realize the image factors of cosplay by character analysis of images. Moreover through the interviews with the senior cosplayers and the photographers, individuals could surely comprehend the cosplayers’ self-perspectives associated to their inner world. By the research conclusion, the observers could not only get more senses by watching the performances and images of the cosplayers but also let them realize the value of self-acting with image-representation.
