I made a lot of efforts to promote their basic capabilities in reading, scientific writing, and blog editing with a hope to enhance their motivation and interest in learning. An action research was conducted for sixteen weeks to help the four indigenous students (the participants) using the extracurricular time. The author picked up a picture book called “Amis Festival”, a set of “Little Newton Encyclopedia”, and some units in the Chinese Literature and Natural Science textbooks as teaching materials. The researcher taught the students to get familiar with the six steps of reciprocal teaching (overview, predict, abstract, question, clarify, integrate) to enhance their reading comprehension. Then, I applied a well-planned procedure to guide students in reading, scientific knowledge understanding and rewriting, and blog construction. The data collection included teaching observation and recording, teacher’s self-reflection on teaching, checklist of the teaching activities, interviews (students’ peer-tutors and my peer teachers). I hoped to understand the effects of this action research from different perspectives. I also adjusted my teaching strategies based on my own reflection and different data sources. The research results included : 1. The participants of this study made some progresses in the reading, scientific knowledge understanding and rewriting, as well as the blog editing and construction. Meanwhile, taking different teaching strategies also help the participants to improve their learning. 2. With the assistance of the student-tutors, the participants of this study became more willing to learn. They had improved the relationship with peer students, and they became more positive towards learning. They also became more self-confident with higher self-esteem and their behavior problems had reduced quite a lot. 3. Action research helped me to solve some problems in my classroom to help the participants, and built a strong bonding between them and me. I realized that student-centered learning is the way to go, not the teacher-centered teaching. 4. Through this action research, I developed the professional growth and promoted teaching capabilities, and I am sure about the value of education to the students who were inferior in socio-economic or cultural conditions. This research can provide some teaching plans, strategies and experiences to share with teachers and the future researchers who are also care about the learning of the inferior students.
