The research object is focused on 62 physically disabled people who live in Kaohsiung City, over 18 years of age, and can independently take the Kaohsiung MRT at five designated stations. The study adopts field-based structural observation method and questionnaire survey to conduct the observation and research. The inspection standards of the study are in accordance with the 2008 Design Regulations of Barrier-free Facilities for Structures stipulated by the Ministry of Interior. The study designs the inspection form to conduct the inspection by the field measurement method to understand the current status of the Kaohsiung MRT barrier-free environment, and then analyzes the results of the inspection. As to the questionnaire survey, the study compiles the questionnaire and uses it to interview the physically disabled so as to understand the opinions of the physically disabled on the barrier-free environment of Kaohsiung MRT. The study then makes recommendations based on the opinions and conducts the comparative analysis of the questionnaire survey results with the actual inspection results. The results of this study are as follows: 1.In view of the standard rate of 60% set by the study, the overall rate of Kaohsiung MRT barrier-free facilities is 77.6%, which conforms to the existing laws. 2.In regard to the detailed design of Kaohsiung MRT barrier-free facilities, there is a big gap from the existing laws such as the guiding directions of elevators, the location of help alarm in the toilet booth, and the location of flush control, etc. 3.Most of the respondents with physical disabilities are satisfied with the accessibility of the Kaohsiung MRT at current stage; and there are no significant satisfaction differences from those who use various assistive walking devices in terms of Kaohsiung MRT barrier-free facilities.
