Due to their enormous size, population and various activities holding in university campuses, universities have an immense impact on the environment and society surrounding them. Universities nowadays are assuming responsibility of their actions toward society and promoting green environmental protection. Although most of the universities sign all kind of declarations, they do not fully dedicate to sustainable university programs because of their poor understanding of sustainability or confusing regulations in achieving sustainability. To achieve sustainability, universities must have appropriate and well-structured plan on critical factors of university campus sustainability. Therefore, the research aims at determining the best and the most suitable factors for achieving campus sustainability. Based on the important criteria of sustainability development synthesized from the related literature, it employs the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) tool to prioritize the relative weights among these factors. The results find that the top five critical factors affecting campus sustainability are “Introductory courses”, “Purchasing infrastructure”, “Waste management strategy”, “Water conservation”, and “Interdepartmental curricula”. It is hoped that the research findings can provide useful references for stakeholders such as government’s policy makers, university management, faculty, and students to develop and/or improve campus sustainability more efficiently and effectively.
