Summary:碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 幼兒教育學系研究所 === 100 === This study, an action research, aims to investigate the effect of the teaching of picture books on environmental awareness for the junior elementary students. The main purpose of the study is to design course planning of the teaching and learning activities through picture books, to discuss the practice of the course planning, and to observe the effect of the teaching of picture books on junior elementary students’ environmental awareness. Eight first-grade pupils of Happy Elementary School (a pseudonym) in Changhua County are the students observed while the designed teaching and learning activities through picture books for them are carried out during one semester. Data are collected through observation, discussion, interview, scale for environmental awareness measured before and after learning, and homework. And the data are arranged for following analysis and induction. The main conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. The use of picture books for teaching and learning activities to enhance the environmental awareness is appropriate and feasible. 2. Students’ participation and environmental behavior are both upgraded by encouraging and increasing with more related activities and discussion time to enrich their environmental experience. 3. Junior elementary students’ environmental awareness can be effectively enhanced by the use of picture books in the teaching and learning activities.
