Low structure stiffness gives vibration problem during machining metal materials. In this thesis the finite element analysis and experimental modal testing are to understand the characteristics of an in-house desktop machine tool. Accelerometer is used to measure the dynamics of the gantry machine tool. Results of the finite element analysis and the modal testing are within some errors. Cutting acrylic, aluminum and brass reveals the above structure dynamics and associated frequency contents coming from spindle and motors excitation. Experiment works for different feed rate with different NC programs were conducted.
