A qualitative research method is carried out. Data collected and analyzed includes two parts--the data on the researcher’s personal life experience, as well as the data from the process of 16 personal existential counseling sessions implemented by the researcher and a client participating in this study. Then these two parts of analyzing results are integrated in order to illustrate the researcher’s personal existential counseling approach. The main findings were as follows: First, the philosophical beliefs of the researcher's personal existential counseling approach include: (a) Life is limited and changeable--shortcomings and limitations in life are inevitable, but with those people coexistence; (b) the reality is constructed by personal interpretation; (c) the human beings are able to resolve and beyond the difficulties; (d) the man lives in whole; (e) the man is unique, and this uniqueness needs to be recognized; (f) people are lonely, they need the connectedness. Second, the issues that the researcher’s personal counseling approach treats includes: (a) the void and meaninglessness when facing the limitations and uncertainty of Being; (b) self-worthlessness and feeling of guilt caused by the existential difficulties; (c) anxiety for the unknown future; (d) evading to take responsibility for man’s own being; (e) loneliness and helplessness. Third, the aims and tasks of the researcher’s personal existential counseling approach are: (a) helping the clients to form appropriate self-concepts to be in the world authentically—recognizing themselves really, and to connect others with genuine encounter; (b) assisting the clients in a different perspective, to create positive experiences in the limited, and to find the meaning of their own being; (c) assisting the clients to take responsibilities and act for themselves; (d) helping the clients to face the unknown future with hope, confidence, and courage. Fourth, the appropriate attitudes of the counselor are: (a) respecting and believing the clients; (b) with sincere concern and interests in the clients; (c) being frank and supportive; (d) being open and acceptant; (e) being hopeful and persistent. 程小蘋 張德榮 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 224 zh-TW |
