Second Life features both avatars and social interaction in synchronous 3D virtual world. The growing popularity of Second Life has attracted many educational communities for using it as a new way of e-learning environment recently. With rapidly development of multi-touch technologies, the use of multi-touch interaction with computers and mobile devices is increasingly popular. Currently, multi-touch technology has become the mainstream user interface for smart-phones, tablet PCs and All-In-One PC. Multi-touch has potential to provide intuitive and natural user interface to make 3D interaction more easily for students. However, multi-touch interaction is not common in 3D virtual world environment. It would be interesting to see how it can be use to enhance learning in 3D virtual world such as Second Life. We developed a 3D virtual world learning environment with multi-touch interaction based on Second-Life-based platform using Hippo viewer and OpenSim 3D Server. We also proposed a research model to assess our proposed design. Empirical results from 138 participant students using field experiments and survey questionnaire show our proposed design is very promising. Our 3D virtual world learning with multi-touch interaction has positive impact on usability and the system can make 3D learning more fun and satisfactory. Our study provides useful insight and implication for further development and design guidelines. 張隆池 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 104 zh-TW |
