In this thesis, the effect of ignition timing on the exhaust emissions and engine performance of a SI engine fuelled by various dimethyl carbonate (DMC)-unleaded gasoline mixtures and LPG were investigated. All tests were carried out on a four-cylinder, four-stroke, spark-ignition engine and without a catalytic converter. The results indicate that by retarding the ignition time, HC and CO emissions are reduced. Advancing the ignition timing caused an increase in the HC emissions. On the other hand, DMC blending unleaded gasoline compared to unleaded gasoline compared to unleaded gasoline, using the DMC can obtain an increase of engine torque. In this thesis, the U.P. software is used to set the injection time of LPG system and explore the relationship of the injection time with the engine exhaust emissions and engine performance. The results indicate that by retarding the ignition time, HC and NOX emissions are reduced. Advancing the ignition timing caused an increase in the HC emissions. In addition, using the LPG and adjusting ignition time can significantly reduce the CO2 emissions. On the other hand, LPG compared to unleaded gasoline, using the LPG can significantly reduce the NOX emissions, in terms of engine performance, LPG compared to unleaded gasoline, using LPG resulting in engine torque to reduce.
