This study adopted questionnaires and used ‘The Factor Scale of Motives and Constraints While the Junior High School Students Decide to Participate in an Art Competition’ as a research tool to conduct a survey of stratified random sampling with the junior high school students in the Central Region who had participated in an art competition held in 2010. And, 500 questionnaires were given to the students and 476 questionnaires were returned. Among them, 7 questionnaires were invalid so that there were 469 valid questionnaires. The response rate of valid questionnaires was 93.8%. Some statistical methods, such as distribution of the number of times, percentage, standard deviation, average number, t-test, single-factor analysis of variance, Pearson product-moment correlation, were used to study and analyze the data obtained by the questionnaires. The study results were considered as a conclusion and some suggestions were provided as future references for the schools or relevant units who will organise an art competition for the junior high school students. According to the above research process, the summarized conclusion of this study is as follows: 1. The junior high school students were highly motivated by an art competition. The most important motive of the junior high school students while deciding to participate an art competition was the ‘motive about self-growth’. The other important motives were respectively the ‘motive about sense of accomplishment’, ‘motive about expectation’ and ‘motive about social needs’. As to the constraints, the most important one was the ‘obstacle of message’, and the other important ones were respectively the ‘obstacle of situation’ and ‘obstacle of intention’. 2. The motives of the junior high school students while deciding to participate an art competition would be influenced considerably by some different backgrounds and variables such as ‘gender’, ‘school year and phase’, ‘number of participations in competition’ and ‘number of winning experiences’. The constraints of the junior high school students while deciding to participate an art competition would be influenced considerably by some different backgrounds and variables such as ‘school year and phase’, ‘group’, ‘number of participations in competition’ and ‘number of winning experiences’. 3. While a student’s number of participations in the art competition was larger, he/she became more motivated to participate in an art competition. While a student’s number of participations in the art competition was smaller, he/she had more constraints while deciding to participate an art competition than the student whose number of participations in competition was larger. The students who had ever obtained an award in an art competition held by the school, the city or the country were more motivated than the students who had never obtained any award. The students who had never obtained any award in an art competition held by the school, the city or the country had more constraints than the students who had ever obtained an award. 4. For the award winners of a higher level competition, the relevance between their motives and constraints was more obvious. For the students who had never obtained any award, the relevance between their motives and constraints was not really significant. For the whole junior high school students, the relevance between their overall motives and constraints while deciding to participate an art competition was not really obvious. 梁 滄 郎 博士 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 190 zh-TW
