Summary: | 碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 管理學院管理科學學程 === 100 === In July 2007, the National Communications Commission(NCC) of the Executive Yuan, released in the north and south area a total of six ”Wireless Broadband Access”(WBA) licenses. The purpose was to promote the development of Taiwan’s wireless broadband industry and provide impetus to Taiwan becoming a mobilized information society in coordination with national industrial development policy, and to provide a healthy research and development environment for wireless broadband commercial operations. After five years, this business is still growing at an embarrassingly slow pace, and Intel has retreated from the market. Moreover, as 4th generation (4G) mobile broadband technology matures, it will undoubtedly limit the continued development of WBA.
Beginning with an exploration of the possibilities of 4G technology evolution and development, this study will attempt to analyze the competitive advantage of WBA in Taiwan. Additionally it will attempt to demonstrate how holders of WBA licensees could respond in the face of competition and challenges from new technology, and how they might develop countermeasures and feasible strategies. Furthermore, this study will examine how changing the nature of existing relationships of competition and cooperation in the industry will allow all contestants in the “game” to gain the most benefits.
This study uses Qualitative Research Methods (QRM) combined with interviews of industry and academic experts and related analysis to discover the appropriate layout for a development and operation strategy for the WBA industry in Taiwan.
