This study is based on resource dependence theories, resource-based theory and five forces model to analyze the quartz industrial characteristics and the competitive advantage of the quartz supplier in quartz material industrial chain. First, we summarized the current industry information and our direct observation to analyze the overall condition of quartz industry. Then we performed in-depth interviews with some managers and senior staffs who had been working in the quartz supplier industry, the authorized quartz fabricators, semiconductors and solar energy plants concerning the subject of the competitive advantages of the suppliers. Through this study, we found the reasons that our case- A company became the world’s top quartz supplier because of its: (1) advanced and unique technology, its excellent manufacturing capabilities and unique technical competencies; (2) product quality: its quartz products with best quality, that is high purity, consistency and stability; (3) produces higher reliability in heat resistance, and have good performance in wide range of specialty applications; (4) continual focus on innovation and new application development; (5) global hub and sales office.
