Summary: | 碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 工業工程與管理學系 === 100 === Two approaches to reducing the maintenance cost for the data warehouse of floral industry in Taiwan are proposed. One is to replace many traditional computer servers by a single blade server. An obvious change of this hardware approach is the reduction of system components. This makes not only the underlying system more reliable but also the space layout easier. Moreover simplified management tasks inherently reduce the maintenance cost. The other is to replace the legacy software Data Transformation Services (DTS) by the innovative software SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Both DTS and SSIS are software products used in information system for Extraction-Transformation-Loading (ETL) purpose. Compared with DTS, however, SSIS offers more functional modules for manipulation and diagnosing capability for ETL data. The effectiveness of SSIS makes the maintencnce cost down naturally. For showing the feasibility of the proposal, a pilot floral data warehouse has been implemented by both approaches together. The decreasing maintenance cost is observed in this research study.
