Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 經濟學系碩博士班 === 100 === The main purpose of this study is to investigate factors that are associated with depressive symptoms for the middle aged and elderly people in Taiwan. Considering the heterogeneity within groups and utilizing indicators based on physical condition and mental status, a Latent Class Analysis (LCA) model was first adapted to identify heterogeneous subgroups. There are five categories were identified: “smoke and drink,” “physically and mentally unhealthy,” “physically and mentally healthy,” “physically unhealthy but mentally healthy,” and “physically healthy but mentally unhealthy”. Subsequently, a probit model was used to analyze the relationship between the heterogeneous subgroups and depressive symptoms for the middle aged and elderly people in Taiwan. The results indicated that “physically and mentally unhealthy,” “physically unhealthy but mentally healthy,” and “physically healthy but mentally unhealthy” classes tended to have higher probabilities to have depressive symptoms compared to that with “physically and mentally healthy” class. Moreover, the “physically and mentally unhealthy” class showed the highest probabilities to have depressive symptoms. The results suggest that those with physically and mentally unhealthy symptoms are the target groups when evaluating depression symptoms through primary care services.
