Because the industry is high cost and high risk, bur high profit, Taiwanese pharmaceutical companies’ primary product is generic drugs. None of them produce the brand-name drugs. By using transaction cost theory and knowledge based view to analysis Taiwanese pharmaceutical companies. What is their decision point about choosing the efficiency-centered business model or novelty-centered business model. This research uses the qualitative research method. By doing interviews and collecting secondary data to analysis the multi case study. This research aims to find the decision point of choosing the business model in Taiwan pharmaceutical industry. This research finds two factors, which influence Taiwan pharmaceutical firms choose business model. First one is strategy of pharmaceutical firms. Second is government policy. This research provide a brief introduction in chapter one, chapter two provide literature review, which include transaction cost theory and knowledge based view. Chapter three provide research method. Industry analysis is provided in chapter four. The result is presented in chapter five. Chapter six provide discussion and suggestions.
