Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 航空太空工程學系碩博士班 === 100 === This work is aimed to study the performance and starting torque of the VAWT by wind tunnel experiment and a numerical method, double-multiple streamtube method. Experiments were carried out to measure the starting torque of the first generation VAWT with pitch control. The first generation VAWT consist of three straight blades of NACA0015, each of which is 90 mm in chord length, 0.54 m in height and 0.9 m in diameter. The result indicates that the starting torque stays positive in any azimuth angle and this result was also successfully predicted by the double-multiple streamtube method. Thus, the VAWT can self-start by means of pitch control. The latest generation VAWT is to improve the disadvantages of the first generation VAWT. It is consist of six straight blades of LS(1)-0417 in cross section, each of which is 0.15 m in chord length, 1.2 m in height and 1.2m in diameter. According to the result of this VAWT, the performance of the VAWT has made a great improvement by pitch control working in turbulence flow. The VAWT gains 30% to 50% power improvement by means of pitch control.
