TFT-LCD has two major components- Liquid Crystal Panel and Backlight Unit. Backlight Unit provides the source of light on a TFT-LCD, and it can make the characteristic of Liquid Crystal Panel’s high resolution prominent. With the enhancement of LCD manufacturing technology, mass production can be applied to all panel sizes. And due to fierce market competition, product design needs to take many aspects into consideration such as lightness, thinness, low power consumption, high brightness, low cost, fine picture quality, and etc. To gain competitiveness, product designing and developing time shall be reduced, and the costs of meeting all required product specifications shall also be reduced. This thesis is to structure a development process of a backlight unit which considers the factors such as cost, power consumption and picture quality. By utilizing the LabVIEW software to establish relative databases and calculate massive data, the thesis is able to recommend the optimized design of BLU.
