Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 國際政治研究所 === 100 === Central Asia has a great significance in geopolitics. With abundant natural resources, Central-Asia is viewed as the second Middle-East or 21 Century strategic energy base. After 911 and Afghanistan war, the United States has been trying to develop new diplomatic relationship and seeking further cooperation with Central-Asia nations in the name of Anti-Terrorisn. Nevertheless, Russia would not like to give away its strategic interests in this region. Also, the Muslim nations want to expand their power of influence here. The geopolitical stability of Central-Asia has a great significance in China''s Western Development Program. In short, Central-Asia is a key factor of China''s major political concern and national interests.
By establishing Shanghai Cooperation Organization and launching China''s Western Development Program, China aggressively seeks ways to better her relationship with Central-Asia nations in political, economic, and energy-related fields. In this thesis, I would like to advance my research from the following perspectives. Firstly, the geopolitical characteristics of Mid-Asia have a great impact on China''s regional and strategic interests. Hence, I would like to further my study on China''s geopolitical strategies, interests, and objectives. Secondly, I would like to dig more deeply about China''s Western Development Program and analyze the impacts and benefits brought by major traffic construction between Central-Asia and China. Finally, by analyzing the competitive roles in Central-Asia traffic construction among US, Russia, and China, we can have a clearer view on the effects and challenges of China''s Western Development Program and her westbound traffic construction in Central-Asia .
