It tries to find that how the earthquake victims adapt themselves to the psychological trauma, how they heal themselves by narrative discourse, and how they develop their own philosophy of life. In recent years, natural disasters around the world continue. People, regardless of their regions, races, and social classes, are valuable when confronting natural disasters. Also, victims find their own ways to survive these disasters. The various ways of healing and survival, as expressed in films and literatures, are the primary concern of the present study. This study references to the earthquake writings in the past decades which include fictions, movies and documentaries. It focuses on the three texts that include Gift of Life on 921, The Aftershock on the Tangshan Earthquake, and Kami No Kodomo Tachi Wa Mina Odoru on the Hanshin Awaji dai shinsai. This study, by referring to logotherapy and existentialism, aimed to reveal the philosophy of life concealed from the three texts. This study is divided into five chapters. The introduction points out the background and other previous studies to the issue, then explain the method of the study. The second chapter takes Gift of Life as an example to explore the narrative discourse and self-healing of the seismic event. The third chapter takes The Aftershock as an example to discuss traumatic effects in the fiction. The forth chapter takes Kami No Kodomo Tachi Wa Mina Odoru as an example to discuss the regret and philosophy of life. The last chapter sums up the core issues of the study.
